Aruba Beach House- New Construction, 8900sf
A home for a Dutch client who had even less pretension than we did to making it "warm and homey"; and more concern with beach frontage, terrace, pools and views, than with streetside curb appeal. This is a full-time home for the couple, but more than that, a constant "Bed and Breakfast" for their many visiting family members and friends. Our model was more boutique hotel/art gallery, than single-family residence.
A neutral palette of steel-troweled concrete floors, white venetian plaster walls and ceilings, aluminum and stainless steel, white lacquered wood cabinetry, and large-format tile in varying shades of gray, creates a backdrop for strategically placed planes of walnut veneer and colored plaster, artwork and furnishings.
The house incorporates passive ventilation, grey water recycling and solar hot water generation. Much of the structure was prefabricated and shipped from Holland and Germany. Interior and exterior finishes, fixtures and furnishings were specified and/or custom designed by architecture + interiors, and fabricated in Holland, The U.S. and Turkey.
